HUPO Short Course: Advanced Protein Identification Informatics (2012)

Sunday, September 9, 2012, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm (with one hour break for lunch-on-your-own)

Nathan Edwards (Georgetown) and Nuno Bandeira (UCSD)

Course Description

This short-course, intended for practicing proteomics informaticians, will introduce advanced protein identification techniques for peptide identification by spectral matching, characterization of post-translational modifications, and protein identification using multiple search engines and machine-learning based combining, and the tools that implement them. Lectures by Dr. Nuno Bandeira (post-translational modifications) and Dr. Nathan Edwards (meta-search and result combining) will discuss the strengths and weakness of each type of analysis, compare available tools, and demonstrate the use of specific tools and the interpretation of results.

A portion of the course will be a hands-on "lab".

Please bring a laptop computer to participate in the lab and to download course materials.
